Mrs. Bettie Dent, 84, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away May 22, 2019 at Tift Regional Medical Center.  Mrs. Dent was born on July, 29, 1934, in Dublin, Georgia, to the late Claude Council Bates and Clara Mae McPherson Bates.  She lived most of her life in Cook County, was a member of the Sparks United Methodist Church and was a retired seamstress for Nashville Textile.

Mrs. Dent is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sue Dent, and Joe and Lee Ann Dent, all of Sparks; three grandchildren, Penny and Daniel Jefferson of Hahira, Georgia, Jason and Hope Dent of Sparks, Melissa and Justin Moody of Lenox, Georgia; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Williard Bates of Lake City, Florida and Billy Bates of Quitman, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Mark and Michael Dent; one brother, Glenn Bates; and one sister, Louise Lee.

A graveside service was held at 5:00 PM on May 23, 2019 at the Sparks City Cemetery with Rev. John Harrington officiating.  Interment followed in the cemetery.  Josh Merritt, Levi Abbott, Caleb Harnage, Dustin Howell, Matthew Abbott, Lee Davis, Jeremie Tucker and Jennifer Vitatoe served as pallbearers.  In keeping with Mrs. Dent's wishes no visitation was held.
