Obituary

Mrs. Betty Sumner Allen, 87 of Madison, Georgia formerly of Lenox, Georgia passed away June 21, 2020 at her sons home. Mrs. Allen was born in Tift County on July 9, 1932 to the late William Lee Sumner and Mattie Virginia Willis Sumner. She lived most of her life in Lenox, Georgia before moving in 2000 to be with her son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter where they lived in Marietta, Georgia; St. Augustine, Florida and Madison. She was a homemaker and had retired from the Cook County Board of Education where she was secretary and bookkeeper for the Federal Funds cordinator and secretary to the curriculum director. Mrs. Allen also served as the City Clerk of Lenox. She was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church. She was the widow of Bruce B. Allen.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Cheryl Allen of Madison; her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Bud Twitty of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Laura Allen of Madison, Lisa and Daniel Riggs of Murfreesboro; also three great grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Gene and Faye Sumner of Lakecity, Florida; Wendell and Annette Sumner of Tifton, Georgia; Cecil Sumner of Oxford, Georgia; one sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Danny Spratling of Athens, Georgia; she was preceded in death by 3 brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the Lakeview Baptist Church in Lenox, Georgia.  Chaplain Bill Allen, Chaplain Emmanuel Williams, Mrs. Nancy Eason, Mrs. Cheryl Allen and Miss Laura Allen were the speakers.  Interment followed in the Lakeview Baptist Church Cemetery. Ben Riggs, Clay Riggs, Jake Riggs, Gene Sumner, Wendell Sumner and Eric Sumner served as pallbearers.  Special selections played on piano by Chaplain Emmanuel Williams were "Blessed Assurance" and How Great Thou Art;" another special selection played was "No More Night."  Visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday June 24, 2020 at Boone Funeral Home at 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia.
