Mrs. Betty Hewett, 84, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away on March 29, 2018 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton. She was born on October 31, 1933 in Cecil, Georgia to the late Tom and Sallie Futch Johnson. She lived most of her life in Cook County where she worked as a homemaker and was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hewett is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Teresa Hewett of Adel; two daughters and sons-in-law: Peggy and Tom Morton of Adel, and Penny and Duke Gibbs of Brunswick, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Hewett of Nashville, Georgia; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vade Mathis of Jacksonville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Hewett; her son, Tommy Hewett; four brothers and four sisters.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hewett was held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home South, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel. Pastor David Hewett and Pastor Penny Hewett Gibbs officiated and Duke Gibbs provided the eulogy. A letter from her daughter, Peggy, was read and Tom Morton sang "Home Where I Belong," "If You Only Knew" and "Wish You Were Here." Another special selection played was "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You." Edward Connell played piano. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service.
