Mrs. Betty Jo Robinson Marshall, 79, of Lenox, Georgia, passed away July 19, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Tifton, Georgia. She was born April 9, 1937 in Prattsburg, Georgia to her late parents, Jesse Spencer Sterling and Mary Estelle Dorman Sterling. She lived most of her life in Cook County where she was a member of Lenox United Methodist Church, served two terms as mayor of Lenox and was retired from the Cook County Board of Education where she worked at Cook High School as the art teacher. She was a member of the Lowndes County Art Guild and the Southern Artist League.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Wanda Robinson of Adel, Georgia and Donald Robinson of Huntsville, Alabama; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dan Dohner of South Jordan, Utah; eight grandchildren: Scott and Meredith Robinson of Brooklyn, New York, Greg Robinson and Calli Robinson, both of Birmingham, Alabama, Kimberly and Sergey Kozlov of Salt Lake, Utah, Amanda and David Rasmussen and Daniel Dohner, all of South Jordan, Jeffrey W. Byrd of Owens Crossroad, Alabama, and Amy and Kevin Pennington of Great Falls, Montana; three great-grandchildren: Garrett Rasmussen, Warner Rasmussen and Aiden Pennington; two brothers, Spencer "Bud" Sterling of Dayton, Nevada, and Bill Sterling of Cataula, Georgia; two sisters: Mary Tomlin of Cumming, Georgia and Mattie Jane Crisan of Watkinsville, Georgia; four step-children and their spouses: Sharon Marshall Trotter, Dee Dee and Bryan Criscillo, Lori and Pete Daniel, all of Louisville, Kentucky, and Andrew and Amber Marshall of Huntington, Maryland; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her first husband, David R. Robinson, Jr.; her second husband, James R. "Jim" Marshall; a brother, Emerson Sterling; and a sister, Bobbie Jean Moon.
The funeral service was held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Lenox United Methodist Church with Rev. Sallie Flowers, Rev. Dan Robinson and Bro. James Yarbrough officiating. Steve Meders sang "How Great Thou Art", Daniel Barber played guitar and sang "Family Circle" and "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot". Ken Rountree, Tommy Daughtrey, Russell Welch, Daniel Barber, Lark Keene and Donald Lasseter served as active pallbearers. Interment followed at Lenox City Cemetery.
