Mr. Charles E. Surrency, Sr., 71, of Adel, passed away Friday September 8, 2017 at his home. He was born in Adel on May 31, 1946 to Toye Emerson Surrency and Mary Helen Dillard Surrency, both now deceased. He lived most of his life in Cook County where he was a member of the Adel Church of God and was retired from the Farm Service Agency where he worked in Program Assistance.
Mr. Surrency is survived by his wife, Sherry Richardson Surrency of Adel; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chad and Lindsay Surrency, and Craig Surrency, all of Adel; five grandchildren: Toye Caine Surrency, Brody Surrency, Alex Rentz, Cheyenne Rentz and Gavin Rentz, all of Adel; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Surrency of Nashville; two sisters, Libby Darby and Tina Surrency, both of Adel; and a brother-in-law, Felton Richardson Jr. and his wife, Geraldine, of Willacoochee.
The family received friends Saturday September 9, 2017 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home South. The funeral service was held on Sunday September 10, 2017 at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Hughes, Rev. Cliff Foster, Rev. Ashley Way and Rev. Raiford Walker officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Timmy Veal, Scott Collins, Carroll Bullard, Ronnie Williams, Lewis Strickland and George Folsom served as active pallbearers; honorary pallbearers were Leroy Howell, Simmie King, Wayne Gilliard, Dr. Bill Day, Trey Lindsey and Keith Lindsey. Wayne and Mary Nell Boyette sang "Consider the Lilies," "I Want Us to be Together in Heaven," and "Go Rest High on that Mountain;" Mary Nell also played piano.
