Mr. Curtis Mathis, 84, of Adel, Georgia, passed away March 17, 2015 at his son's home. Mr. Mathis was born January 18, 1931, in Berrien County to his late parents, Ansel D. "A.D." Mathis and Lucille Rowan Mathis. He lived most of his life in Cook County and was the retired owner of Mathis Paint Center, was a member of New Life Baptist Church, and also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife, Navada Johnson Mathis of Adel; a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Sylvia Mathis of Adel; two grandchildren: Melissa and Jeff Oler, and Scott and Annie Mathis, all of Adel; and four great-grandchildren: Nickolas Oler, Samantha Oler, Kierstin Mathis, and Kylee Mathis, all of Adel. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carmeta S. Mathis; two brothers: Buie and Ulmer Mathis; and a sister, Joyce Mathis.

The family received friends Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 6 until 9 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service was held Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 11 AM at New Life Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Duncan and Rev. Harris Whitman officiating. Interment followed in the New Life Church Cemetery. Scott Mathis, Jeff Oler, Nickolas Oler, Willie Roger McDaniel, Roger C. McDaniel, and Kirk McDaniel served as active pallbearers; The 70's Sunday School Class and employees of Steel Building Systems served as honorary pallbearers. Larry Corbett sang "Beulah Land"; Wayne and Mary Nell Boyette sang "I Call It Home"; and the New Life Church Choir sang "What a Meeting " and "Mansion Over the Hilltop".
