Mr. Darrell Carter, 71, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. He was born on June 12, 1947 in Waycross, Georgia to the late Johnny Washington Carter and Mary Lucille Beverly Carter Sutton. Mr. Carter lived in Cook County most of his life where he was a member of New Life Baptist Church and was retired from the Civil Service where he was an electronic technician at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia. He also served honorably with the Unites States Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Smith Carter of Adel; two sons: Doug Carter of Tifton and Derrick Carter of Adel; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Jonathan Morgan of Richland, Washington; six grandchildren: Emma Carter of Waycross, Ethan Carter of Tifton, Nathan Carter of Adel, Tyler Morgan of Richland, Washington, Kyla Carter of Adel and Sarah Morgan of Richland, Washington; a sister, Evelyn Boone of Omega, Georgia; and six special nieces: Lisa Harrell of Athens, Georgia, Sherry Robinson of Omega, Letitia Vick of Adel, Michelle Taylor of Adel, Amy Carlton of Hull, Georgia and Brittani Cannington of Lenox, Georgia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl V. Carter, and a sister, Mary Nell Carter.
The family received friends Saturday evening, August 4, 2018 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home South. The funeral service was held at 2 PM on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Payne officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Cook County Chapter of Vietnam Veterans. Corkey Taylor, Shannon Vick, Josh Vick, Cole Taylor Lee Pierce and Jeff Robinson served as pallbearers.
