Mr. Dillard Dewey Ensley, Jr., 77, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away November 14, 2016 at his home. He was born on September 15, 1939 in Cook County to Dillard Dewey Ensley, Sr. and Annette Eleece Snead Ensley. Mr. Ensley was a lifelong resident of Cook County where he served the community in many capacities. He was retired from the Cook County Board of Education where he was the principal of Cook High School and was also a retired minister. Mr. Ensley had many interests but history and poetry were two of his favorites as shown through his many historical writings and lectures as well as the numerous poems he has written through the years. Throughout his recent illness, his loving wife, Willette, and daughter-in-"love", Gina, ministered to his needs.
Mr. Ensley is survived by his wife, Willette Taylor Ensley of Sparks; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Gina Ensley of Bonaire, Georgia; two grandsons: Daniel E. and Andrew N. Ensley; two brothers and sisters-in-law: James and Joan Ensley, and Benny and Cindy Ensley, all of Sparks; and a sister, Linda E. Morrell of Sparks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Ensley.
The Ensley family received friends Tuesday November 15, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service took place Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Adel with Rev. Bill Marlette officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn City Cemetery. Slade Ensley, Reed Ensley, Spencer Ensley, Clay Ensley, Joe Stalvey and Jeff Stalvey served as pallbearers. Sheila Humber played the piano; Steve Meders sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art"; the congregation sang "Amazing Grace".
