Mrs. Dorothy "Dottie" Hester Duren, 83, of Adel, passed away on June 5, 2018 at her home. She was born on September 6, 1934 in Sparks, Georgia to the late Eugene Thomas Hester and Gladys Ethelyn Postell Hester. Mrs. Duren was a retired secretary and a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. She also served more than 22 years as a volunteer for Memorial Hospital of Adel and Cook Medical Center.
Mrs. Duren is survived by her husband, Donald Duren, of Adel; four daughters and three sons-in-law: Angie and Tony Bell of Moultrie, Joy Duren and Ricky Clanton of Lakeland, Donna Watson of Adel, and Carol and Timothy Harnage of Nashville; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and "Buffy" and "Missy" who were her beloved pets. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Gaines, Russell and Douglas Hester.
The funeral service for Mrs. Duren took place Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Antioch United Methodist Church with Rev. Christy Bandy and Dr. Gary Brady officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. The family received friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Phillip Taylor and Ellen Wiggins sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "I'll Fly Away" and Johnnie Lou Ellenberg played piano; the special musical selection "Dancing in the Sky," was also played during the service and the congregation joined in the singing of "Amazing Grace." Alex Bell, Jacob Bell, Don Baker, Bryce Monk, Kyle Adams and Steven Greene served as pallbearers. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at
