Obituary

Mr. Earl Jackson Wilkerson, age 90, of Sparta, Tennessee, a native of Sparks, Georgia, passed away on June 5, 2025 at the National Healthcare Rehabilitation Center in Sparta.  Mr. Wilkerson was born on November 21, 1935 in Sparks, Georgia, to the late Jack Calvin Wilkerson and the late Beulah Vernice Brown Wilkerson.  As a Church of Christ minister for over 58 years, his ministry took him to several churches in the South including 48 years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He loved all aspects of being a minister, especially being able to help people solve their problems.  He was instrumental in raising funds to help get Angel's Place established, an orphanage that was very dear to him in India.  His strong work ethic began on his family farm and continued through his time at David Lipscomb University.  While at David Lipscomb University he served as a minister at Corinth Church of Christ, raised five children, worked a job setting type for a Bible publisher, all in addition to his college work.  He will fondly be remembered for never seeing a challenge that he could not tackle.  In his spare time he enjoyed traveling and working on his tractors.

Mr. Wilkerson is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean Cowart Wilkerson of Daphne, Alabama; four daughters and three sons-in-law: Cheryl and Phil Hackett of Sparta,  Linda Milliken of White House, Tennessee, Phyllis and Mike Young of Daphne, Alabama, Terri and Adam Dean of Sparta; three sisters: Sara Elliott of Morven, Georgia,  Iris Moore of Quitman, Georgia and Carlene Evans of Jacksonville, Florida; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Earl Wilkerson; one brother, Paul Wilkerson; and an infant sister, Barbara Jean Wilkerson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia with Minister John Klimko officiating.
