Mr. Edgar Gornto, 81, of Adel, Georgia, passed away August 13, 2015 at Columbus Specialty Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. He was born in Cook County on November 26, 1933 to his late parents, John Colon Gornto and Rose Delma Folsom Gornto. A lifetime resident of Cook County, Mr. Gornto was a member of First Baptist Church in Adel where he served as a deacon and worked on various committees, and was retired from the Cook County Board of Education where he taught Automotive Technology at Cook High School for many years, was a former employee of Cook County Ford and worked as a farmer. He also served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a member of the Retired Educators Association and the Cook County Historical Society.
Mr. Gornto is survived by his loving wife, Latrelle Bradford Gornto of Adel; two sons and daughters-in-law: Bruce and Cathy Gornto of Prattville, AL and Ralph and Rhonda Gornto of Brunswick, GA; six grandchildren: Jason and Lindsay Gornto of Birmingham, AL, Jill and Donald Raymond of Newnan, GA, Blair Gornto and Caroline Gornto, both of Prattville, Tiffany Gornto and fiancé Daniel Griffis of Brunswick, Shelby and Drew Wentworth of Brunswick; and three great-grandchildren: Piper and Harper Gornto of Birmingham and Ethan Raymond of Newnan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Gornto.
Funeral services for Mr. Gornto were held Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Adel with Rev. Bill Marlette and Rev. William Davis officiating and remarks by Jason Gornto. Interment followed at Woodlawn City Cemetery in Adel. Jason Gornto, Blair Gornto, Donald Raymond, Drew Wentworth, Daniel Griffis and Oscar Patterson served as active pallbearers; the Men's III Sunday School Class and the Patriot Guard served as honorary pallbearers. Glenn Beard, Steve Meders, Dr. Tom Fausett and Tim Fausett sang "Leaning On the Everlasting Arms" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and Sheila Humber played the piano.
