Mrs. Emily Sue Varn Pitts, 78, of Adel, Georgia, passed away at her home on August 29, 2019. She was born in Valdosta and lived about half of her life there and the other half in Cook County. Her parents were James "Jim" Edmondson Varn and Emily Marie Allen Varn. She attended Open Door Baptist Church and was retired from Sears and Roebuck after working there for 29 years.
Mrs. Pitts is survived by two sons: Joel Pitts and his fiancee, Jona Stalvey, and James Pitts and his wife, Jenny, all of Adel; a granddaughter, Jordan Gooch and her husband, Jacob, of Athens, Georgia; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe H. and Margie Pitts of Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene R. "Splinter" Pitts.
The funeral service took place at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Lakeview Baptist Church with Rev. Gary James officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Jordan Gooch sang "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and was joined by Rev. Gary James in the singing of "Where We'll Never Grow Old" and "Amazing Grace;" Charlotte Dickerson played piano. Jcob Gooch, Andrew Rouse, Cameron Hardman, Kennly Hayes, Wendell Stephens and Byron Wilder served as pallbearers. The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Boone Funeral Home South. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.boonefunerals.com .
