Frederick Lamar Byrd, Sr. was a strong man that loved his family very much. He always made sure they knew how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. Fred was also known for being a hard worker and owned a siding business in Adel for over 30 years. Even in retirement, he worked a farm with over a hundred cows and managed multiple rental homes. He used to say that he wanted to be "a player until the end" and that he was!Fred was of the Baptist faith and
on January 23rd, 2017, he went home to be with Jesus. He was born on March 7, 1943 in Adel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Alma Byrd, and
he was survived by his wife, Molly, and five children, Steve (Jackie) Byrd, Fred Byrd Jr., Beth (Steve) Harrison, Bo Byrd and Lauren (Alex) Kennon. He was also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica (Jeremy) Compton, Christine Byrd, Tyler, Caden and Kaitlyn Harrison, Dillan and Trinity Byrd, Chloe and Bristol Byrd and two great-grandchildren, James and Olivia Compton.
The family received friends at Boone Funeral Home located at 1804 S. Hutchinson Avenue in Adel from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, January 27th. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Adel on Saturday, January 28th located at 200 E. 5th St, Adel, GA with Rev. Doug Stevens and Rev. Mike Brannon officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery Annex. In lieu of flowers please donate to the rebuilding of homes destroyed by the recent storm in Adel; you may submit your donation through First Baptist Church of Adel's Disaster Relief Fund in honor of Fred. Fred loved his community and would want to help those in a time of need. Rob O'Quinn sang "Amazing Grace" and "Because He Lives"; Sheila Humber played piano; the special musical selection "I Saw the Light" was also played at the service.
