Obituary

Mrs. Gerri Turner, 74, of Adel, Georgia, passed away at her home on Thursday, February 6, 2020.  She was born on April 19, 1945 in Martinsville, Indiana but has been a resident of Cook County for the past 31 years.  Mrs. Turner was a homemaker and a Christian.

Gerri is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Phillip Turner of Adel; four children and their spouses: Lori Mathis of Adel, Toni and Jeff Welch of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Steve L. and Amy G. Turner of Adel, Bill and Kyla Turner of Adel; her mother, Marie Pate Counter of Plainfield, Indiana; her grandchildren: Hannah and Brandon Weeks of Adel, Josh Mathis of Adel, Mandy and Tanner Bennett of Harrah, Oklahoma, Brandon and Michelle Welch of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Shelby and Garry Welch of Midwest City, Lisa and Jordan Turner of Valdosta, Georgia, Leah Turner, Judah Turner, Pate Turner, Gabe Turner and Katie Turner, all of Adel;great-grandchildren: Kayla Mathis and Zane Spence of Adel, Brandon and Courtney Weeks of Adel, Brinlee and Christopher Burnett of Harrah, Oklahoma, Persephonie Adams of Midwest City and Lilith Alderman of Valdosta; a brother, Rick Kemp of Terra Haute, Indiana; a sister, Susie Moore of Plainsfield, Indiana; and a special son, Jimmy Owens of Dillon, South Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Fidler; a granddaughter, Sarah Turner; a grandson, John S. Mathis, III; a son-in-law, John S. Mathis, Jr.; mother-in-law, Viola Turner; and step-father, Bill Counter.

A graveside funeral service was held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Adel with Rev. Jimmy Owens officiating and Heather Marshall providing the eulogy.  Rev. Owens also sang "Amazing Grace," "Wish You Were Here" and "Go Rest High on that Mountain."  Brandon Welch, Jordon Alderman, Brandon Weeks, T.J. Turner, Lee Bullard, Kevin Weeks and Spencer Morgan served as pallbearers.
