Mrs. Hazel Gibbs, 78, of Wauchula, Florida, passed away January 20, 2015 at Florida Hospital in Sebring, Florida. She was born April 10, 1936 in Adel, Georgia to the late Josh Harris and Ida Ivy Sorrell Harris. She lived in Cook County until 1971, then moved to Tennessee until 1974 and then to Florida where she has lived until her passing away. She was a retired co-owner of Kitchen Kraft Kabinets.
Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her husband, Charles Gibbs; a son, Dale Gibbs; a daughter, Janet Pridgen all of Wauchula; a step-son, Ricky Gibbs of Warner Robins, Georgia; a brother, Lester Harris of Wauchula; and three sisters: Lois Griffin of Sparks, Georgia; Ethel Avera of Largo, Florida; and Gladys Pruitt of Waycross, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her four sisters: Illia Bell Nesmith, Aline Bennett, Myrdine Higgins, and Reba Cumbest.
The Gibbs family received friends Saturday evening January 24, 2015 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service took place Sunday January 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Ike Jefferson officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Adel. Jack and Bettye Joiner sang "Lead Me Home," "Go Rest High on That Mountain," and "Beulah Land;" Mrs. Joiner also played the piano. Randy Harris, Calvin Griffin, Scott Bennett, Carlos Bennett, LaDon Wilkerson, and Lee Griffin served as pallbearers. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.boonefunerals.com.
