Mr. Howard Castleberry, age 87, of Adel, Georgia passed away June 29, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Castleberry was born on August 10, 1936 in Tampa, Florida to the late James Roy Castleberry and Emme Castleberry. He lived most of his life in Cook County and was retired from Weyerhaeuser. Mr. Castleberry was an avid fisherman and hunter, he never met a stranger and was always kind to everyone. He was a member of the China Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Colquitt County.
He loved his children and grandkids. He is survived by his son, Wayne Castleberry of Adel; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Ann Ray, Judy and Ray Nelson, Patricia and Jeffrey Parker, all of Adel; eight grandchildren: Deanna (Chris) Davis of Adel, Mindy Brown (Kevin Barnhill) of Red Oak, North Carolina, Kimberly Clanton of Adel, Ashleigh Nelson of McClellanville, South Carolina, Christopher (Chelsea) Castleberry of Adel, Haley (Dustin) Walker of San Antonio, Texas, Shane (Christin) Parker of Adel, and Shawn Parker of Adel; sixteen great grandchildren: Tyler (Katee) Davis and Ethan Davis all of Adel, Harrison Brown of Red Oak, North Carolina, Brakston Roberson, Sarah Clanton, Shelbie Clanton, Andrew Castleberry, Annaleigh Castleberry and Abigail Castleberry, all of Adel, Presleigh Walker and Gracelynn Walker of San Antonio, Texas, Arabella Walker of Gastonia, North Carolina, Jaylin Parker, Seth Hayes, Cole Parker and Paisley Parker, all of Adel; one brother, Marvin Castleberry of Callahan, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Mixon Castleberry; two brothers, James Castleberry and Harold Castleberry; two sisters. Gladys Stanfill and Mary Mixon; and a son-in-law, David C. Ray.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at China Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Colquitt County with Rev. Jackie Cabaniss officiating and eulogy provided by Shawn Parker. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Castleberry lied in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation took place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Boone Funeral Home; 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. Active pallbearers were Christopher Castleberry, Shane Parker, Shawn Parker, Brakston Roberson, Ethan Davis, Kevin Barnhill, Austin Benton and Tyler Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Folsom, Jimmy Simmons, Glenn Reed, Nick Griffin, Michael Barfield and Junior Folds. Tammy Shultz played piano and Freddie Potts sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beulah Land".
