Mr. James "Jay" Arthur Browning, 96, of Adel, Georgia, passed away December 13, 2014 at Cook Medical Center in Adel. He was born February 15, 1918 in Berrien County to his late parents, Eddie Elton Browning and Nancy Evelyn Edwards Browning. He lived most of his life in Cook County, was a member of Adel United Methodist Church, was a retired mechanic with Ted Holt Chevrolet and also was a farmer.
Mr. Browning is survived by his loving wife, Laries Weeks Browning of Adel; a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Ruth Browning of Adel; a grandson and his wife, Chris and Sara Browning of Portland, Oregon; a granddaughter, Nikki York of Adel; four great-grandchildren: Katy and Noah Browning of Portland, and Clay and Jay York of Adel; one sister, Ina Morey of Adel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Browning was preceded in death by two infant children; three brothers: Lonnie, Elton, and Johnny Browning; and five sisters: Cora Mae Tomlinson, Lessie Mae Gandy, Louelle Bennett, Marlene Day, and Thelma Bennett.
The Browning family will receive friends Monday Evening December 15, 2014 from 6 until 8 pm at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service will take place Tuesday December 16, 2014 at 11 am at Adel United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary James and Rev. John Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4564 Antioch Road, in Adel. Andy Weeks, Steve Weeks, Jake Weeks, Kenny Morey, Ethridge Bennett, Jr., and Ronnie Bennett will serve as active pallbearers; Donald Browning, Bobby Tomlinson, the Keystone Sunday School Class, and members of Young at Heart will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Adel Methodist Church Choir will sing "Beulah Land" and "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)" and Mrs. Beth Penn will play the organ.
