Obituary

Mr. James Lamar Griffin, 85, of Adel, Georgia, passed away July 28, 2014 at his home. He was born February 12, 1929 in Adel to the late Jesse Edward Griffin and Winnie Carter Griffin. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church and was retired from the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts during his more than 27 years of service to the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Griffin was an avid outdoorsman who truly loved hunting and fishing, and he also enjoyed bluegrass music.

Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Joanne "Ann" Bryant Griffin of Adel; two sons and daughters-in-law: James Lamar Griffin, Jr. and his wife, Avis, of Hahira, Georgia, and Edward E. "Buddy" Griffin and his wife, Linda, of Adel; a daughter and son-in-law, Monica Ann and Les Brooks of Union, Connecticut; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service was held Friday August 1, 2014 at 2:00 pm at New Life Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Ray and Dr. William Hancock officiating; Michele Eliason, Mr. Griffin's oldest granddaughter, provided the eulogy. The family received friends one prior to the funeral service. Jamie Hunter played guitar and sang "When I Die" and "Blood of the Saviour"; Mary Nell Boyette played piano; other special selections played at the sewrvice were "Far Side Banks of Jordan" and "Grandpa".
