Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of James "Jimmy" Lawrence; beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, Jimmy passed away on February 5th, 2025 at the age of 84, surrounded by his family.  Born on March 4th, 1940,  in Adel, GA, Jimmy was known for his kind heart, passion for his community, and his unwavering dedication to Christ his Savior.

A lifelong resident of Adel, Jimmy dedicated his life to serving his community, his country, and his church.  He was a member of Adel United Methodist Church (now Adel Wesleyan Church), a Mason and Shriner, and he served in the United States Army.  Jimmy was a man of integrity, always willing to lend a helping hand.  His stories, wisdom, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jimmy is survived by his loving daughters and a son-in-law, Kelly Soper of Jacksonville, Florida, and Dawn and Roger Higgins of Decatur, Indiana; their beautiful mother, Gail Reed Harper of Jacksonville; his cherished grandchildren and their spouses: Lauren Soper of Seabeck, Washington, Jesse Soper of Jacksonville, Brittany and Chad Etheridge of Elbert, Alabama, Taylor and Dylan Adams of Harland, Indiana, Hunter and Morgan Ingram of Hinesville, Georgia; eight beloved great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, David Cowart of Adel; a host of nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parent, Elton and Nelda Lawrence; his brothers, Robert E. Lawrence, Fred "Freddie" Lawrence, Richard "Dick" Lawrence; and his sister Linda Lawrence Cowart.

A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held at 11:00 AM on February 8th, 2025 at Adel Wesleyan Church with Rev. Doug Tolson officiating and Mr. Junior Ross providing the eulogy; Mr. Lawrence's daughter, Dawn Higgins will also read a poem at the service.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn City Cemetery.  The visitation will be conducted from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday evening, February 7th, 2025 at Boone Funeral Home (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel).  Tonya and Jason Kelly will sing "Amazing Grace", Mr. Lawrence's great granddaughter, Emilee Adams, will play "I Sing the Mighty Power of God" on piano, and a recording of "My Way" will be played at the service.  Jesse Soper, Adam Ray, Jared Lawrence, Jeremy Lawrence, Blake Suggs and Toby Patterson will serve as pallbearers.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Adel Wesleyan Church (214 S. Hutchinson Ave., Adel, GA 31620) in his memory.

Jimmy will be remembered for his dedication to family and his unwavering faith. He planted down roots that branched off into several generations of people that mirror his heart on their own. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
