Obituary

Mr. James Morris Whittle, age 89, of Adel, Georgia passed away on March 5, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born in Lowndes County on February 15, 1936 to the late James Walter "Pete" Whittle and the late Viola Vernice Flowers Whittle.  Mr. Whittle was a retired manager for Insurance of North America.  He lived most of his life in Cook County and was a beloved member of Antioch Church where he was a member of the Antioch Men's Club, served on several boards and was also a Sunday School teacher.  Mr. Whittle was also very community minded having served on the Cook County Board of Equalization as well as several other boards.

Mr. Whittle is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hillis Baldree Whittle of Adel; two daughters and sons-in-law: Karen and Steve Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dianne and Paul Froment of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren and their spouses: Tabitha and Keith Jenkins of Adel, Austin and Jillian Tull of Atlanta, Casey and Brian Weniger of Kalispell, Montana, and Steven and Dominica Wilson of Atlanta; nine great-grandchildren: Daniel Jenkins, Gabriel Jenkins, Jack Tull, Henry Tull, Walter Weniger, Arthur Weniger, Adeline Weniger, Tripp Wilson and Bennett Wilson; and a sister, Donna Harrison of Hernando, Florida.

The funeral services for Mr. Whittle will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday March 8, 2025 at Antioch Church with Rev. Jake Webster officiating and Mr. Whittle's grandson, Austin Tull, providing remarks about his grandfather.  Mr. Whittle will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.  Interment at the church cemetery will immediately follow the service.  Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Boone Funeral Home  South (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel).  Jason Boykin, Cam Hardman, DJ Hardman, Joe Fulghum, John Bearden and Derry Bennett will serve as active pallbearers; Bill Barton, Stewart Ashley, Carl Hall, Russell McCranie and Freddie Stone will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Kathryn Webster will sing "Holy, Holy, Holy", the congregation will sing "Oh, How I Love Jesus" and Sharon Mosley will play piano.  "Lead Me Home" will also be played at the funeral service.
