Mrs. Janice Laverne Barker Coker, 73, of Brewton, Alabama, passed away on March 28, 2018 at L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital in Greenville, Alabama. She was born on December 14, 1944 in Adel, Georgia to Austin Baker and Martha "Marthy" Murphy Baker. She lived most of her life in south Georgia before moving to Brewton eleven years ago. Mrs. Coker was a homemaker and retired insurance agent.
Mrs. Coker is survived by her husband, Dennis Coker of Brewton; a son and daughter-in-law, Frankie and Debi Lasseter of Boston, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Steve Basulto of Quitman, Georgia; two grandchildren: Tiffany and Robert Wickham of Thomasville, Georgia, and Daniel Lasseter; two step-grandchildren: Jared and Ethan Basulto, both of Quitman; a step-great-grandson, Lucas Wickham of Thomasville; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard Wayne Barker and Michelle Barker of Columbus, Georgia, and Billy and Melba Barker of Valdosta, Georgia; and two sisters and a brother-in-law: Joleta and Gene Atkinson, and Barbara Ray, all of Adel. In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by a sister, Annette "Tootsie" Pettyjohn.
The family received friends Friday evening, March 30, 2018 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service was held Saturday March 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home South with Rev. Brad McVea and Rev. R.T. Castleberry officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Special selections played at the service were "Angels Among Us," "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)," and "Go Rest High on That Mountain." Daniel Lasseter, Todd Fountain, Scott Fountain, Lucas Wickham, Bud Barker and Randy Barker served as pallbearers. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at
