Mrs. Jean Harper Bennett, 77, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on July 1, 2019 at Cook Medical Center in Adel. She was born on January 28, 1942 in Berrien County. Her parents were the late Shellie Henry Harper and Mittie McMillan Harper. Mrs. Bennett lived most of her life in Cook County where she was a homemaker and member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her husband of 60 years, Marshall R. "Buck" Bennett, Sr. of Adel; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Marshall Bennett, Jr. and Mary Beth Bennett of Valdosta, Georgia; two daughters and a son-in-law: Angie and Jimmy Simmons of Adel and Kathy Bennett Harvey of Nashville, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Carrie Gantt (Bobby) of Jasper, Georgia, Alison Harvey Brennan (Alex) of Canton, Georgia, Melanie Harvey Tucker (Justin) of Nashville, Tyler Harvey, Jr. (Brittni) of Nashville, John Marshall Harvey of Nashville, Marshall "Ben" Bennett, III of Tifton, Georgia, Sam Bennett of Valdosta and Ian Bennett of Athens, Georgia; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Edwin Harper and her sister, Virginia Gaskins.
The funeral service for Mrs. Bennett took place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Dwight Marshall and Elder Barry Marshall officiating. Interment followed at Antioch Church Cemetery. Marshall "Ben" Bennett, Sam Bennett, Ian Bennett, Tyler Harvey, John Marshall Harvey, Bobby Gantt, Alex Brennan and Justin Tucker served as pallbearers. Elder Barry Marshall led the congregation in the singing "Amazing Grace" and other hymns from The Primitive Baptist Hymnal. The family received friends on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Boone Funeral Home South.
