Mrs. Jean G. Oliver, age 89, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away on February 21, 2024 at The Fellowship Home of Nashville, Georgia.  She was born on March 14, 1934 in Ray City, Georgia and her parents were John Samuel Godwin and Ruby Lorena "Dean" Reed Godwin.  Mrs. Oliver lived in Cook County most of her life including 26 years in Sparks before moving to Sumter, South Carolina but then returned home to Sparks in 2019.  She was a retired magistrate judge for Cook County and also formerly served in the Civil Service Air Force.  Mrs. Oliver attended Evergreen Baptist Church and served the Lord in many ways including teaching Sunday School Class for a total of 57 years.

Mrs. Oliver is survived by four grandchildren: Melissa Jean and Stacey Stubbs of Morven, Georgia, Candice Oliver of Hahira, Georgia, Jason Griswold of South Carolina, Jamie and Eric Corbell of Sumter, South Carolina; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a brother, Edward J. Godwin of Sparks; and two sisters-in-law: Elaine Dillard of TyTy, Georgia and Diane Godwin.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ret. M. Sgt. Edwin William Oliver, Jr.; her son, James Edwin "Jimmy" Oliver; her daughter, Debra Lynn Oliver Griswold; and three brothers: James "Jimmy" Samuel Godwin, Tommy Joe Godwin and Jerry Lamar Godwin.

The funeral service for Mrs. Oliver was held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 23, 2024 in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Brannon officiating.  Interment followed at Sparks City Cemetery.  Visitation was held at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.boonefunerals.com.
