Rev. Jimmy Smith, 89, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away on July 8, 2021, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. He was born in Lyons, Georgia, on March 24, 1932. His parents were the late James Vernon Smith and Lucy McNatt Smith. Rev. Smith lived in Cook County most of his life, served honorably in the U.S. Air Force and he was a retired gospel minister. He was a member of North Bridge Church in Hahira, Georgia.
Rev. Smith is survived by a son, Matt Smith of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim Smith Greene and Cam Greene of Atlantic Beach, Florida; five grandchildren: Matt and Janelle Greene of Panama City Beach, Florida, Jake and Julie Greene of Phoenix, Arizona, Mikaela Smith of Chicago, Illinois, Connor Smith of Marietta, Georgia and Karsten Smith of Athens, Georgia; three great-grandchildren: Samantha Grace Greene and Elliott Wes Greene both of Panama City Beach, and Emory Phillip Greene of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patti Sue McKinnon Smith; a grandson, Jameson Smith; and a sister, Martha Elizabeth Smith Taylor.
The funeral service for Rev. Smith took place at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Adel, Georgia with Rev. Mike Wells officiating. Interment at Woodlawn City Cemetery immediately followed the service. Pallbearers include the grandchildren: Matt Greene, Mikaela Smith, Connor Smith and Karsten Smith; son-in-law, Cam Greene; nephew, Ray McKinnon; great nephews: J.D. Demott and Adam Demott. Honorary pallbearers were Jake Greene, Jeff Clemons and Todd Clemons. Music performed by Ken Webb included "In The Garden" and "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus." The family had a reception with desserts in the social hall of First Baptist Church after the committal service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requesed that memorials in honor of Rev. Smith be made to Glenn and Phyllis Hatcher, contributions may be mailed to G & P, Globe International, P.O. Box 3040, Pensacola, Florida 32516 or online at https://globeintl.org/members/g-p/ .
