Obituary

Mr. Joe Beckner, 78, of Hahira, Georgia, passed away December 30, 2015 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. He was born August 31, 1937 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to the late Coney E. and Velta Novella Blackburn Beckner. He lived in Cook County the last forty-plus years where he was a member and Deacon Emeritus of Westside Baptist Church. He worked as an electrician with PCS in Florida for many years and also served honorably for 22 years in the military with the Unites States Air Force and Marine Corps. He served in communications during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Beckner was also a member of Strummers Act II where he enjoyed singing and playing instruments with his wife.

Mr. Beckner is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Faye Wilson Beckner of Hahira; three daughters and a son-in-law: Jennifer and Scott Pattillo of Hahira, Janine Beckner of Lakeland, Georgia, and Lisa Bostick of Tifton, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Heather Corbin, Dustin Folsom, Nicole Williams, Carly Macri, Cliff Bostick, McKenzie Pattillo and Joshua Colon; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Billy Earl Beckner of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Azel Hill Beckner of Bowling Green, Kentucky. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Colon.

The family received friends Friday January 1, 2016 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel, Georgia. The funeral service took place Saturday January 2, 2015 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Hendley and Rev. Michael Bass officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Scott Shealey, Terry Shealey, Dewade Bostic, Stacy Skinner, Keith Howze and Warren Wilson served as active pallbearers; the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1090 served as honorary pallbearers and also conducted military rites at the graveside. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Luverne Boone Memorial Fund (c/o Westside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 632; Adel, Georgia 31620).
