Mr. John Raymond Smith, Jr., 71, of Adel, Georgia passed away on May 15, 2019 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Mr. Smith was born November 10, 1947 in Clanton, Alabama to the late John Raymond Smith, Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Askew Smith. He lived most of his life in Adel and was a member of the Adel Presbyterian Church. Mr. Smith was a retired insurance agent with American General Insurance Company.
Mr. Smith is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John Raymond Smith, III and Margaret Smith, Glenn and Paula Simmons, all of Adel; two daughters, Michelle Blackmon of Texas and Janet Simmons of Virginia; grandchildren: John Aiden Smith and Sophie Matilda Smith, Ansley Simmons, Allie Simmons and Braylee Simmons, all of Adel; Haley Morris, Brittany BeeBe and Benjamin Morris, all of South Carolina; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Beth Parrott of Adel; two nieces: Melanie Parrott of Adel and Evan Parrott Hutcheson of Alabama; and one nephew, Kenneth Parrott of North Georgia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Anton Smith
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Adel First Assembly of God with Rev. Eric Gordon and Rev. Dona Lee Preston officiating. Interment followed at the Woodlawn City Cemetery in Adel. The trio of Brittney Mainor, Ashley Mainor and Paige Gordon sang "Love Lifted Me," "Gentle Shepherd" and "It Is Well;" Charlotte Dickerson played piano during visitation and the recessional. Heath Tomlinson, Justin Lasseter, Trey Johnson, Scottie Sanders, Michael Sanders and James Taylor served as active pallbearers; Ronnie Dobbins, Gary Cooksey, Donnie Carter, Tommy McLain and Don Huckaby served as honorary pallbearers. Visitation was held at the church one hour prior to the service.
