Mr. Johnny Lamar Bennett, 64, of Valdosta, passed away Thursday November 9, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He was born in Adel, Georgia on July 13, 1953 to Jerry Redding Bennett (late) and Sally Ann Southerland Bennett. Mr. Bennett lived in Lowndes County most of his life, was a member of Statenville Church of Christ and a computer technician. He also served his country honorably in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife, Earline Iona Croft Bennett; a son, Scott Bennett; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Brian Kelley; his mother, Sally Ann Bennett, all of Valdosta; five grandchildren; and two brothers: Elton "Skeeter" Bennett of Valdosta and Larry Bennett of Stockton, Georgia. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Cruz Bennett and a brother, Fred Bennett.
The funeral service was held Tuesday November 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home South with Bro. Evans McMillan officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Sparks City Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home before the service from 9;30 AM until service time. Scott Bennett, Elton Bennett, Larry Bennett, Jarrett Johnson, Justin Moore and Brian Kelley served as pallbearers. "Go Rest High on That Mountain" was played at the service. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to the Statenville Church of Christ, US Hwy. 129, Statenville, Georgia 31648.
