Mr. Johnny Guthrie, 73, of Adel, Georgia, passed away at him home February 14, 2015. He was born October 12, 1941 in Cook County to his late parents, John Henry Guthrie and Gussie Mae Harrell Guthrie. He lived in Cook County all of his life, was a retired truck driver, and a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.
Mr. Guthrie is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Timmy and Becky Guthrie of Adel; three daughters and sons-in-law: Janet and Lance Godwin of Sparks, Georgia, Denise and Greg Keigans of Norman Park, Georgia, and Patricia and Steve Brown of Adel; fifteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daphine Tyson Guthrie; two brothers: Tommy and Bobby Guthrie; and a sister, Judy Meeler.
The funeral service for Mr. Guthrie took place Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Antioch United Methodist Church in Cook County with Rev. Christie Bandy and Rev. Jason Dickerson officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Aaron Guthrie, Chase Keigans, Joe Lance Godwin, Jamie Godwin, Josh Guthrie, Jason Godwin, J.R. Shivers, Justin Shivers, and Tyler Shivers served as pallbearers. Johnny Lou Ellenberg played the piano and Steve Meders sang "Beulah Land," "I Want Us to be Together in Heaven," and "The Anchor Holds." The special selection, "Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind," was played at the end of the service. The Guthrie family received friends Monday evening, February 16, 2015, from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel.
