Obituary

Mr. Joseph E. "Joe" Duggan, 68, of Hahira, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2016. He was born March 1, 1948 in Hahira to his late parents, W.H. "Hill" Duggan and Juanita Bennett Duggan. He lived most of his life on the family farm in Hahira and was a member of Hahira Church of Christ. Mr. Duggan was employed by Acree Properties where he worked in land management and was a retired deputy sheriff and firefighter with Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and Valdosta Fire Department, respectively. He also served honorably in the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Duggan is survived by his fiancee, Janet Cothron of Valdosta, Georgia; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Ragan Duggan of Hahira; a granddaughter, Lexia Patterson of Hahira; a brother and sister-in-law, James Hill Duggan and Tamara Duggan of Spring Hill, Tennessee; a nephew and his wife, Stephen and Candee Duggan of Franklin, Tennessee; three great-nephews: Hill, Caleb and Sam Duggan; and a host of cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Duggan; an infant brother, William Levy Duggan; and an infant sister, Jacklyn Faye Duggan.

The Duggan family received friends Friday evening, October 7, 2016 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home. The funeral service was held in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home on Saturday October 8, 2016 at 11 AM with Rev. Webster Johnson and Rev. Johnny Lightsey officiating. Interment followed at Friendship Church Cemetery in Hahira. Bobby Jack McIntyre, Wade Keck, Nate Byron, Tracey Edmondson, Greg Cowart, Roger Barber and Robert Hubbard served as active pallbearers; Dr. Russell Acree and William Bush served as honorary pallbearers. Roger Barber sang "Beautiful Heaven" at the service; other special selections played at the service were "I Saw the Light", "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and "Wabash Cannonball"; the congregation sang "Amazing Grace" at the graveside.
