Mrs. Joyce Bessie Stewart Roegge, 78 of Adel, Georgia passed away June 9, 2025 at her home after a short illness. She was born November 21, 1946 in Hahira, Georgia to the late Abram Herring Stewart and the late Bessie Lou Dukes Stewart. Joyce who was also known as "Joy" a nickname fitting her personality, a loving wife, a devoted mother, beloved sister, treasured aunt, grandmother and treasured friend. Joyce dedicated her life to caring for others both personally and professionally as a registered nurse for decades she served with grace, compassion and love. Her calling to heal and help others led her to a long and admirable career in nursing. This lead her to serve as director of nursing in both Salina, Kansas and later in Lakeland, Georgia at South Georgia Medical Center Lakeland Campus a roll in which she mentored countless young nurses and touch innumerable lives and made lifetime friends. Outside of work she relished in simple beauty of her yard. She was an avid gardener known for her vibrant flower beds and the way she could bring life to plants and provided many colored flowers from the soil. Her garden was a reflection of her soul nurturing, resilient and always blooming with love. She will be remembered for for her warmth, wisdom, quick wit and unwavering strength she carried through life. Whether offering a listening ear, a helping hand, sharing a beautiful plant she had a of making those around her feel seen, valued and loved.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Chuck, who she spoiled with love. They were married on January 30th, 1963 in Adel, Georgia. Children, Lynn and Stuart who she talked about with pride. Grandchildren, Kris, Logan, Alex and Chaz who she was incredibly proud of. Cherished brother and sister, Albert (Carol) and Susie (Lark). Countless friends and colleagues who were lucky to know her. Her legacy lived on in every flower that blooms and every heart that she helped heal. She will be dearly missed and forever loved. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Lottie Beatty. Her survivors include her brother, Albert Stewart; Sister, Susan Keene; brother-in-law, Bob Roegge; sisters-in-law, Cheri Ratzlaff and Patty Lane; Children: Joyce Lynn Smith (Darren); grandchildren, Kristopher G. Smith and Logan A. Smith; Stuart Abrahm Roegge (Paula), grandchildren, Alexandria Puderbaigh and Charles (Chaz) Bates Roegge, III.
The family will be receiving visitors from 2:00 to 4:00 PM; Saturday; June 14th at the Roegge home at 204 S. Gordon Ave; Adel, Georgia. In keeping with Mrs. Roegge's wishes she was cremated and no formal services will be held at this time.
