Mrs. Joyce Watson, 80, of Adel, Georgia passed away October 28, 2014 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia. She was born on December 19, 1933 in Selma, Alabama to the late Leslie Monroe Dempsey and Mary Lou Morgan Dempsey. She lived most of her life in Cook County and was a member of Community Calvary Holiness Church. She served her family as a homemaker and also her community as a nurse for thirteen years with Dr. Avery Beall.
Mrs. Watson is survived by her husband, Rev. Lawton Watson of Adel; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Denise Watson of Midway, Georgia; a daughter, Debra Sheffield of Adel; four grandchildren: Christopher and Liz Sheffield of Adel, David Sheffield of Adel, Heather W. and Kurtis Eby of Jesup, Georgia, and Heath Watson of Midway; nine great-grandchildren; and a step-brother and sister-in-law, Vona and Becky Rewis of Adel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, L.T. Dempsey, and a sister, Betty Lasseter.
The Watson family received friends Thursday evening October 30, 2014 from 6 until 8 pm at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel. The funeral service took place Friday October 31, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Community Calvary Holiness Church, 1180 Community Church Road in Adel with Rev. Tony Walker and Rev. Joey Dean officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 8879 Val-Del Road. Scott Shealey, Scott Hobby, Dale Lasseter, Roy Lasseter, Van Sumner, and Dale Hobby served as active pallbearers; Jimmy Bullard, Speedle Bullard, Billy Joe Watson, Eston Rentz, and James "Buddy" McGill served as honorary pallbearers. Donnell Sellers played guitar and sang "Go Rest High on That Mountain;" the congregation sang "Where the Milk and Honey Flows;" Vernell Plymel sang "Wait and See;" Vernell Plymel and Tony Walker played the piano.
