Mr. Kenneth Ashley, 85, of Adel, Georgia passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. He was born July 4, 1934 in Hahira, Georgia. Kenneth was the son of the late Robert Harold "Catfish" Ashley and Gladys Grantham Ashley of Hahira.
Kenneth lived most of his life in Hahira and Adel, Georgia, He attended Lowndes County Schools and served in the United States Army as a Military Police from 1954 to 1956 where he was stationed in Germany. Kenneth was a self-employed contractor and was well known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail. He also had a passion for cars, he could often be found at the local dirt track racing his 1933 Chevy Coupe. At any time Kenneth was known to have a project car in the garage: over the years he has restored countless cars and trucks. Kenneth was a member of the Adel Church of God, where he served as an usher.
Mr. Ashley is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: David and Cindy Ashley, Vic and Alice Ashley all of Adel; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Jason Brady of Adel, Jerrod and Christi Stalvey of Sparks, Jody and John Smith of Albany, Jessy and Jacob Jones of Ellijay, Kaitlyn Ashley of Hahira, Matthew Ashley of Adel and Anna Ashley of Adel; and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty Phelps Ashley; one son, Kenny Ashley; one granddaughter Amber Lynne Ashley; and four sisters: Louise Warner, Eleanor Warner, Ruby Ashley and Nancy Ann Ashley.
The funeral service for Mr. Ashley was at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 19, 2020 in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Ashley Way officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors presented by Chapter 1090 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Special musical selections played at the service were "Even Though I'm Leaving" and "Grandpa." Jerrod Stalvey, Alan Phelps, Corkey Taylor, Derek Jackson and Joe Callahan served as pallbearers. The family received visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel.
