Mr. Larry Scott Nixon, 67, of Leesburg, Georgia, passed away June 16, 2016 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. He was born on March 17, 1949 in Brunswick, Georgia to the late Marvin E. and Mildred Whitehead Nixon.
Mr. Nixon graduated from Bacon County High School, Brewton Parker College, the University of Georgia and electronics school in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a lifelong resident of South Georgia and North Florida living in Alma, Adel and Valdosta. Mr. Nixon was of the Methodist faith. He worked in Georgia, Florida and Tennessee as a Radio and Television Broadcast Engineer and radio voice talent. In the 1960's at the age of 13 he was the youngest licensed radio broadcaster in the state of Georgia. Mr. Nixon was well known in the early 70's to the late 80's as a familiar voice on WBIT radio in Adel and other stations in Valdosta and the surrounding area. Mr. Nixon also loved being a Ham radio operator with the call letters "KD4MSS". He was the chief broadcast radio engineer for Cumulus Media in Albany, Georgia covering eight radio stations.
Mr. Nixon is survived by his fiancee, Gwen Hanks of Watkinsville, Georgia; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Daniel W. and Gayle Nixon of Sullivan's Island, South Carolina; an aunt, Adrienne O'Dillon of Watkinsville; two nephews: Lanny (Kristen) Nixon of Decatur, Georgia and Marvin A. Nixon of Toronto, Canada; and several cousins also survive.
A memorial service for Mr. Nixon took place on Thursday June 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.) in Adel, Georgia with Rev. John Stephens officiating. Mr. Steve Meders sung " Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". His cremains will be interred at a later date in the family cemetery near Watkinsville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Georgia Sheriffs Youth Homes or to your local Boys and Girls Club.
