Mrs. Leila Ruth Giddens Fender, 95, of Brunswick, Georgia, passed away Wednesday November 18, 2015 at the Senior Care Center of Brunswick. She was born on July 15, 1920 in Adel, Georgia to her late parents, Gordon Green Giddens and Lovie Pafford Giddens. She lived in South Georgia most of her life and in Brunswick the past twenty-four years. She was a member of First Southern Methodist Church in Albany, Georgia and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Fender is survived by her son, Randy Glenn Fender (Sheila) of Greenville, South Carolina; three daughters: Wanda Sue Fender McPherson (Don) of Lakeland, Florida, Reba Jane Fender Pearson (John) and Sharon Ruth Fender Thomas (Doyle), both of Brunswick; thirteen grandchildren: Gregory Fender, Mark Fender, Pamela Barnes, Susan Barnes, Geoffrey Fender, Amy Fender Owens, Donald McPherson, Stephen McPherson, Salena Pearson Papsen, Justin Pearson, Meagan Thomas, Mindy Thomas and Mallory Thomas; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Morris Giddens of Tifton, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Glenn Fender; a son, William Sidney Fender; a daughter, Shelbey Jean Fender Barnes; and eight siblings.
The funeral service for Mrs. Fender was held Saturday November 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Hendley officiating. Interment followed at Antioch Church Cemetery. Jeremy McGarry, Alan McGiboney, Doyle Thomas, John Pearson, Stephen McPherson and Don McPherson served as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Mrs. Fender be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org) or to The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
