Mrs. Lucy Hanks Gabriel, 60, of Morven, Georgia, passed away September 13, 2017 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia. She was born on July 11, 1957 in Hahira, Georgia to James Harold Hanks and Hellen Griffin Hanks, both now deceased. She was of the Jewish-Episcopalian faith and was a retired teacher having taught middle school and high school in Morven. She has lived in many places including Cochran and Morven, Georgia as well as Guatemala. Mrs. Gabriel performed her undergraduate work at Wesleyan College in Macon and her graduate work at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro as well as studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain.
Mrs. Gabriel is survived by a son, Steven Gabriel of Guatemala City; a daughter, Isabella Gabriel of Columbia, South Carolina; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Wynne Hanks of Augusta, Georgia; a sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Russell Spivey of Cochran; and a half-sister, Nancy Hanks of Ray City, Georgia.
Mrs. Gabriel's family received friends Friday evening, September 15, 2017 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home South, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel, Georgia. The funeral service was held Saturday September 16, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Dell Jones officiating. Interment followed at Campground Methodist Church Cemetery in Brooks County. Bryan Hanks, Todd Griffin, Bruce Griffin, Russell Spivey, Randy Griffin and Jeff Griffin served as pallbearers. A special musical selections "Terra Nova" and "See You Again" were played and Todd Griffin played guitar and sang a special song.
