Mrs. Lyn Martin, age 57, of Adel, Georgia passed away on January 8, 2025 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia. She was born on October 30, 1967 in Adel, Georgia to James Faircloth and the late Carolyn Virginia Spires Faircloth. Mrs. Martin lived all of her life in Cook County and was a member of the Adel Church of God. Lyn was an Honor Graduate from Cook High School in the Class of 1985. She continued her education at Valdosta State and received her Associates Degree in 1987. She then attended Georgia Southern University and received her Bachelors Degree in Education. Upon graduation, she and her best friend, Julie Oliver Pickle, both got jobs in the Savannah area. After teaching in Effingham County, she returned to Cook County in August, 1990 and became part of the Hornet family again. She was Lyn Faircloth and was a 6th grade Language Arts teacher. Lyn continued her education at VSU and received a Masters in Education in 1993, followed by an Education Specialist degree in 1995. She added her Masters in School Counseling in 1997. This year was her 36th year in education and she loved her counseling/teaching career in which she touched the lives of many students. Middle School was her "mission in life" and she loved counseling the students as they transitioned into teenagers. Lyn was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary teachers' sorority, and was active in the Alpha Rho Chapter in Cook County. Lyn was instrumental in getting the Class of 1985 to begin a scholarship through the Educational Foundation and was the point person for classmates to submit their donations.
Lyn Faircloth married Bryan Martin in March of 1995 and they continued to reside in Cook County. Bryan and Lyn welcomed their son Drew in September of 2004.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband, Bryan Martin; her son, Drew Martin; her father, James Faircloth, all of Adel; and half-sister, Beth McBrayer of Tifton. After the death of her mother, Lyn was raised by the late Floyd and Lucy Gaskins.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM on Sunday; January 12, 2025 at the Adel Church of God with Rev. Charles Blair and Rev. Ashley Way officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Blake Cowart, Chase Cowart, Gage Cowart, Braydon Cowart, Luke Martin, Lance Martin, Ilias Jones and Ace Tessier served as pallbearers. "It Is Well," "Goodness of God" and "Overcomer" were played at the service. Visitation was at Boone Funeral Home South (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel) on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A memorial scholarship has been established in her memory and will be the Lyn Faircloth Martin Memorial Scholarship and in lieu of flowers, donations to this scholarship can be sent to: Cook County Educational Foundation,
