Obituary

Mr. Marshall R. "Buck" Bennett, Sr., 86, of Adel, Georgia, passed away on March 6, 2021 at his residence.  He was born on March 6, 1935 in Cook County to the late Wilburn Moses Bennett and Mary Edwards Bennett.  Mr. Bennett lived all of his life in Cook County and was a member of the Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church and a retired farmer.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and contributed to his community by serving on the Cook County Board of Education, Cook County Commissioners, Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Cook County Board of Health, was a Board Member of the Nashville Credit Union and a Life Member of the Cook County Young Farmers.

Mr. Bennett is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Marshall Bennett, Jr. and Mary Beth Bennett of Valdosta, Georgia; two daughters and one son-in-law: Angie and Jimmy Simmons of Adel, Kathy Bennett Harvey of Nashville, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Carrie and Bobby Gantt of Jasper, Georgia, Alison Harvey Brennan and Alex Brennan of Canton, Georgia, Melanie Harvey Tucker and Justin Tucker; Tyler Harvey, Jr. and Brittni Harvey, and John Marshall Harvey, all of Nashville, Georgia, Marshall "Ben" Bennett, III and his fiancée, Taylor Hendricks of Tifton, Georgia; Sam Bennett of Valdosta, Georgia and Ian Bennett of Griffin, Georgia; seven great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Derrell and Joanne Bennett, and a sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Sandy Shaw, all of Adel; a host of nieces and nephews also survive.  Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jean Harper Bennett; two brothers, J. W. Bennett and Carroll Bennett; and one sister, Rochelle Pfeiffer.

Funeral services for Mr. Bennett were held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, March 9 , 2021, at the Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Dwight Marshall and Elder Barry Marshall officiating. Interment followed at the Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery. Marshall "Ben" Bennett III, Sam Bennett, Ian Bennett, Tyler Harvey Jr., John Marshall Harvey, Bobby Gantt, Alex Brennan and Justin Tucker served as pallbearers. "Amazing Grace," "Rock of Ages" and Hymn #31 from the Primitive Baptist Hymnal were sung at the service by the congregation.  The family requested that those attending the services please observe CDC guidelines, practice social distancing, and wear a mask.
