Obituary

Mrs. Martha Louise Connell Grimes, 91, of Adel, Georgia, passed away May 12, 2014 at Southeast Georgia Health System of Camden in St. Mary's, Georgia. She was born March 25, 1923 in Adel to the late Buren Enoch Connell and the late Gladys Mae Moore Connell. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Adel and had resided in Adel for the past twenty-three years.

Mrs. Grimes is survived by her son, Lee Grimes of Adel; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Johnny Lee of Folkston, Georgia; two granddaughters and their spouses: MaeLeigh and Mike Lipes of Covington, Virginia, and Meagan and Jacob Oakley of Folkston; a brother, Sam Connell of Lithonia, Georgia; two sisters: Frances Maddox of Adel, and Pat Connell of Valdosta, Georgia. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Howard L. Grimes, Sr. and a sister, Josie Wheless.

The family of Mrs. Grimes received friends Thursday evening May 15, 2014 from 6 until 8 pm at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel. The funeral service was held at 2 pm on Friday May 16, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Adel with Rev. Ben Smith and Rev. Bill Marlette officiating. Interment followed at Longbridge Cemetery in Berrien County. Sheila Humber played piano and sang "It Is Well WIth My Soul" and Tom Fausett played "Amazing Grace" on saxophone before leading the congregation in the singing of it; the congregation also sang "Victory in Jesus" and a special selection by Aaron Copeland was also played. Greg Maddox, Lynn Sturch, Todd Sturch, Landan Smith, Jordan Smith, Logan Smith, and Mark Thompson served as pallbearers; Mrs. Grimes's Sunday School Class and the Circle of Hope Missions Action Group served as honorary pallbearers.
