Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Dixon Dismuke, 97, of Thomasville, Georgia, formerly of Adel, Georgia, passed away on July 8, 2021, at Woodleaf Senior Care Center in Thomasville. She was born in Warwick, Georgia on May 4, 1924 and her parents were the late James Pleasant Dixon and Alma Irene Wood Dixon. Mrs. Dismuke was a member of Adel United Methodist Church and was a retired homemaker. She lived in Adel most of her life in Cook county and in Thomasville for the past five years.
Mrs. Dismuke is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law: Beth D. White, Sharon and Bruce Fykes, Dixon D. and Dick Van Hook, all of Thomasville, and Jamie and Donnie Wisenbaker of Valdosta, Georgia; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Wynelle Jordan of Greenville, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Clyde Dismuke, Jr.
The visitation for Mrs. Dismuke took place on Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at Boone Funeral Home South, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel. The funeral service was held on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Adel United Methodist Church with Rev. John Stephens III and Rev. Robert Wood officiating. Eulogies by her grandchildren included "Remembrance of Grandmama" by Brent Fykes as well as presentations by Rick Van Hook and Donnie Wisenbaker. Cindy Williams played piano and Mary Sue Ward sang "In the Garden" and "It Is Well With My Soul." Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery Annex in Adel. Pallbearers were Rick Van Hook, Brent Fykes, Kevin White, Keith White, Todd Wisenbaker, Drew Copeland, Wes Fink and Rob Nix. Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Warren, Mike Dinnerman, Ferris Fykes, Brett Warren, Vance Dean and members of the Keystone Sunday School Class.
The family would like to thank the staff at Woodleaf Senior Care, the nurses and staff of Bethany Hospice and special caregivers, Rosemary Dunbar, Faye Hill, Kiarra Wilson and Dale Shepherd. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Dismuke's memory to Adel United Methodist Church, 214 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia, 31620 or to Bethany Hospice, 2012 E. Pinetree Blvd. Suite A, Thomasville, Georgia 31792.
