Mrs. Mary Ruth Flanders, 75, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away Sunday September 17, 2017 at her home. She was born on October 16, 1941 in Noxapater, Mississippi to Edward Demar Wilkes and Evelyn Ruth Suttle Wilkes, both now deceased. Mrs. Flanders was a member of Nashville Church of Christ and was retired after working many years in several different positions including Metal Products, The King Frog Clothing Store and Restaurant, The Family Inn Motel and Restaurant and serving as manager for The Southland Restaurant. She was a family oriented woman and will always be remembered as such.
Mrs. Flanders is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jamie Flanders of Adel; two daughters and a son-in-law: Joanie and Tony McCranie of Sparks, and Elizabeth Sterk of Sparks; a "special daughter", Cheyel Wilkes of Sparks; seven grandchildren: Jessi and Bryan Mullis of Tifton, Jaimee and Sam Howell of Cecil, Jonathan McCranie and Jordan Griffith of Norfolk, VA, Blake and Colby Bullard of Adel, Colt Raper and Jessi Raper of Adel; six great-grandchildren: Raegan Mullis of Tifton, Caiden Bullard of Cecil, Cohen Bullard of Adel, Morgan Weeks of Adel, Lincoln Mullis of Tifton and Maebry Bullard of Adel; a brother, Allen J. "Pete" Wilkes; and six nieces and nephews: Lee Wilkes, Paula French, Kim Pearson, Robbie Clements, Allen Wilkes and Bobby Jo Vickers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Harry Flanders; a grandson, Gage Raper; two brothers: Bobby Wilkes and Buddy Wilkes; and a sister, Mae Parramore.
A memorial service for Mrs. Flanders was held Wednesday September 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home South (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel) with Bro. Richard Dale officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Bryan Mullis sang "Amazing Grace" and "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing."
