Mrs. Mary Evelyn Spearman, 86, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away November 19, 2015 at Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. She was born March 6, 1929 in Berrien County to her late parents, Otis L. and Jeffie Lee Sumner Brown. She lived most of her life in Cook County where she was a member of the Pilot Club and lifelong member of Sparks United Methodist Church and the Comrade Sunday School Class. During her life she worked for Rainbow's Department Store, Iris's, and also worked as assistant librarian for the Cook County Library.
Mrs. Spearman is survived by two sons: Timmy Spearman of Lenox, Georgia, and Johnny Spearman of Sparks; two daughters and a son-in-law: Rose Mary and Larry Fossette of St. Augustine, Florida, and Denise Ashley of Ellijay, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Casey and Michelle Spearman of Lenox, Corey Spearman of Hopeful, Georgia, Carrie and Dayton Griffin of Lenox, April and Ian Crabill of Adel, Mary and Nick Westbrook of Jacksonville, Florida, Laura and Chris Hall of Sparks, and Jessy Ashley of Ellijay; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Fender of Nashville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Cecil Spearman; a granddaughter, Amber Ashley; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Spearman; and a son-in-law, Paul "Tiny" Powers.
The family received friends Friday evening, November 20, 2015, from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service took place Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2 PM at Sparks United Methodist Church with Rev. Dillard Ensley officiating. Interment followed at Sparks City Cemetery. Casey Spearman, Corey Spearman, Dayton Griffin, Nick Westbrook, Chris Hall and Ian Crabill served as active pallbearers. The Pilot Club served as honorary pallbearers. Haley Spearman played piano and sang "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)" and "Love Remains"; Claudette Spearman played the organ and the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art".
