Mrs. Mary Ethel Swift Fountain, 77, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully April, 24, 2015 at Holly Hill in Valdosta. She was born August 31, 1937 in Lenox, Georgia to her late parents, Felder and Beatrice Swift. She lived most of her life in Valdosta.
She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church and had many successful occupational endeavors in her life including Dentistry, Nursing, Floral Design, and was a licensed Realtor. She was the first manager of Woodstone Apartments before moving on to Village Apartments and finally landing at the Holiday Inn as the night auditor where she enjoyed working for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed the Braves, the Dawgs, and games, especially cards, sometimes staying up all night playing set-back with her mother and friends. She loved her some fried okra and Charlie Rich.
She is survived by her sons: Joel T. "Bear" Fountain of Lake Park, Georgia, and Gerald Gill, Jr. of Macon, Georgia; her brother and sister-in-law, Carl E. and Wynelle Swift of Lenox; and three special "Little Ones": Zach Gay, Katelynn Gay, and Sydni Jol Lawlor, all of Lake Park. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Baker.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Lakeview Baptist Church in Lenox with Chaplain Jimmy Jones officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. The family received friends at Lakeview Baptist Church one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank Holly Hill and Hospice for caring for Mrs. Mary, and a very special thank you to three special friends and caregivers: Lynn Adams, Mika Bethea, and Daphne Hatcher. Virgil Moore, Greg Tucker, Will Lawlor, Mark Swift, Kenny Ray, and Joe Griffin served as pallbearers. Wynelle Swift sang and Susie Betts played the piano.
