Mrs. Mattie Brumblow Rutland, 86, of Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Lenox, Georgia, passed away January 15, 2015 at Capital Medical Center in Tallahassee. She was born in Omega, Georgia, on April 18, 1928, to her late parents, James M. "Jim" Brumblow and Mary Ruth Griffis Brumblow. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching the Duella Wynn Sunday School Class and was a member of Young at Heart. Mrs. Rutland was an active member of the Lenox Community Club for many years. She was a retired teacher, serving more than 37 years in education. She earned her Bachelors and Masters of Education degrees from Georgia Southwestern University and her Education Specialist degree from Nova University. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Honor Society for Outstanding Women Educators.
Mrs. Rutland is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J. Andrew and Brenda Rutland of Huntsville, Alabama; a daughter, Pamela Rutland Payne of Tallahassee; four grandchildren: Kevin and Allison Payne of Tallahassee, Melanie and Todd Kurn of Marietta, Georgia, Melissa and Jim Roberts of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Blake and Marry Rutland of Nashville, Tennessee; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 and a half years, William Levy "Billie" Rutland; a son-in-law, George Payne, Jr.; and a sister, Freda Vonell Rutland.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rutland were held Sunday, January 18, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Lakeview Baptist Church in Lenox with Rev. Dillard Ensley and Rev. Kurt Smith officiating. Interment followed at Lakeview Church Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday January 17, 2015 from 5 until 7 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. In Adel. Kevin Payne, Blake Rutland, Jim Roberts, Todd Kurn, Larry G. Rutland, Jerry Rutland, Terrell Rutland, and Carroll Rutland served as pallbearers. The congregation sang "Victory in Jesus" and "Jesus Loves Me;" the Lakeview Church Choir sang "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" and Susie Betts played the piano.
