Mrs. Montine Futch Wood, 92, of Hahira, Georgia passed away June 8, 2024 at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia.  Mrs. Wood was born July 21, 1931 in Cook County to the late Loy A. Futch and Corinne Daniel Futch.  She lived most of her life in Cook County where she served for 37 years as the Clerk for the County Commissioners.  Mrs. Wood taught the young Adult Sunday School class at the Adel United Methodist Church for many years.  She was grateful for her godly heritage and she passed the values of her ancestors down to her descendants.  She had the gift of hospitality and made everyone feel welcome in her home. "Teen" was a woman of excellence and was adored by her husband and family.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Merriman; her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cary Wood all of Hahira; three grandchildren: Julie Wood Wardwell (Rich) of Hahira, Jessie Merriman Russell (John) of Hahira, Angie Merriman Bain (Scott) of Powder Springs, Georgia; eight great grandchildren: Abby Russell Madsen (Andrew) of Valdosta, Georgia, Grant Russell (Hannah), Davis Wardwell, Anne Wardwell, all of Hahira, Isaac Bain, Samuel Bain and Emily Bain, all of Powder Springs, Georgia; Charlie Hortman of Johns Creek, Georgia; two great-great-grandchildren: Rose Madsen and Merrin Madsen, both of Valdosta.  The family would also like to recognize and thank her "Special Friend and Caregiver", Clara Smith and the staff of the Langdale Hospice House of Valdosta.  Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 73 years, Harrell Wood; step-mother, Lillie Purvis Futch; two brothers, Herman Futch and Sidney Futch; and one granddaughter, Stephanie Wood Hortman.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., Adel, Georgia 31620) with Rev. Bruce Merriman and Elder Thad Marshall officiating.  A private interment followed just for the immediate family at the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation took place at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the time of the service. The pallbearers were the spouses and sons of Montine's three surviving granddaughters: Rich Wardwell, Davis Wardwell, John Russell, Grant Russell, Scott Bain and Isaac Bain. The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" at the service.
