Mrs. Monzelle DeMott Shiflett, 98, of Adel, Georgia, passed away October 17, 2015 at Berrien Nursing Center in Nashville, Georgia. She was born August 13, 1917 in Cairo, Georgia to her late parents, Allen Perry "A.P." DeMott and Candis Kelley DeMott. She lived most of her life in Cook County where she was retired from Whidby Jewelers after serving as a clerk for more than fifty years. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Adel.
Mrs. Shiflett is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law: Laqueta Howze of Hahira, Georgia, and Debra and Roscoe Register of Adel; four grandchildren: Phil and Dare Howze of Troupeville, Georgia, Keith and Diane Howze of Hahira, Kelly and Ricky Sumner of Adel, and Jon and Shanya Register of Adel; fifteen great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clifford "Cliff" Otis Shiflett; two grandchildren: Michael W. Howze and Kathy Howze Lewis; a great-grandson, Hayden Eisenhower; and a son-in-law, Roy Howze.
The funeral service was held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Westside Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Ray and Rev. Julian Griner officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn City Cemetery in Adel. The family received friends at Westside Baptist Church one hour prior to the service. Will Howze, Ty Howze, Ty Sumner, Nole Register, Phil Howze, Jr., Jeremy Howze, Josh Eisenhower, Tony Garcia, Stephen Abbott, Jeffery Law, and Tyler Raulerson served as active pallbearers; Jewell Newbern and Bertha Hopper (members of the Anna Johnson Sunday School Class) served as honorary pallbearers. Faye Spence played piano and sang "I'll Tell the World I'm a Christian" and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace".
