Mrs. Myrtle Mercer Gandy,75, of Sparks, Georgia passed away December 9, 2016 at Cook Medical Center in Adel following a long illness.
She was born June 29, 1941 in Berrien County to the late George Franklin Mercer and Lennie Irene Ritch Mercer. Mrs. Gandy was a member at The Lenox Christian Fellowship Church and a homemaker. She lived most of her life in Cook county.
Mrs. Gandy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mr. Eugene "Gene" Gandy of Sparks; two sons: Ricky Gandy of Sparks and Tony Gandy of White Oak, Georgia; three grandchildren: Jessica Gandy and Emily Gandy, both of Sparks, and Katie Gandy of Valdosta, Georgia; two step-grandchildren: Alaina Fulp and Caleb Fulp of White Oak; three great-grandchildren: Britain Harrison of Valdosta, Hadessah Gandy and Eli Gandy of Sparks; one sister, Hazel Gandy of Sparks. She was preceded in death by her sister, Edith Spires and two brothers, Franklin Mercer and James Austin Mercer; her half-brother, Buck Murray and half-sister, Lucille Summerford.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 11, 2016 at The Lenox Fellowship Church with Rev. Jimmie Hinson and Rev. Greg Hester officiating. Interment followed at Westview Cemetery in Nashville, Georgia. Bruce Gandy, Kyle Griffin, Danny Gandy, Keith Weeks, Buddy Caldwell and Doc Folarin served as pallbearers. Members of the church sang "Go Rest High on That Mountain", "Hallelujah Square" and "Some Call It Home". Visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia.
