Mrs. Navada Johnson Mathis, 94, of Jacksonville, Florida, (formerly of Adel, Georgia), passed away on April 15, 2019 in Jacksonville. She was born in Hahira, Georgia on March 21, 1925. Her parents were Thomas and Sallie Futch Johnson.
Mrs. Mathis is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Bruce Weldon and Dorothy B. Weldon of Jacksonville; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Sylvia Mathis of Adel; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and her nephews, nieces and their spouses: Darryl and Brenda Weldon of Hahira, David and Teresa Hewett of Adel, Peggy and Tom Morton of Adel, Penny and Duke Gibbs of Brunswick, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Mathis, and her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and James Hewett.
Mrs. Mathis lived most of her life in Jacksonville where she resided more than 40 years and retired from Wachovia Bank after more than 30 years of service. After retirement, she moved to Adel where she married Curtis Mathis. She enjoyed spending time with her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and James, and her nephew, Darryl and his wife, Brenda, while she lived in Adel. After the death of her husband, Curtis, in 2015, she moved back to Jacksonville and resided with her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Dorothy.
A memorial service for Mrs. Mathis will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at New Life Baptist Church. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
