Mrs. Pauline Griffis, 94, of Adel, passed away August 25, 2015 at Berrien Nursing Center in Nashville. She was born on December 10, 1920 in Colquitt County to her late parents, Noah Jacob Asbell and Odessa Castleberry Asbell. She lived most of her life in Cook County where she was a member of Springhead Baptist Church and was a former member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Griffis served her family as a homemaker and also worked as a shipyard welder during World War II.

Mrs. Griffis is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dorsey, Jr. and Katie Griffis of Jonesboro, GA; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mildred and Talmadge Folsom and Hellen Martin, all of Adel; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Judy Griffis Miley and Junior Miley of Adel; a brother, Henry Asbell of Florida; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elton and Betty Griffis; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Phillip Ricks, and Annette and Larry Mincy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Griffis, Sr.; a son, Lytelle Griffis; a granddaughter, Letitia Griffis Tyson; five brothers: James, Carlos, Travis, Russell, and Phurman Asbell; and a sister, Lorene Calhoun.

The family received friends Thursday evening August 27, 2015 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home (1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.) in Adel. The funeral service took place Friday, August 28, 2015 at Springhead Baptist Church at 11 AM with Rev. Joey Taylor and Rev. Virlon Griner officiating. Interment followed the funeral service in Woodlawn City Cemetery. Lisa Folsom played piano and sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus"; Wayne and Mary Nell Boyette sang "I Call It Home" and "I Want Us to be Together in Heaven"; the congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and Mrs. Boyette also played the piano. Ken Griffis, Greg Folsom, Jason Griffis, Brian Martin, Chris Martin and Doug Martin served as pallbearers.
