Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Phyllis Anne Gaskins Carter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.  Phyllis passed away on March 20, 2025, at the age of 73, surrounded by her family and friends after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Phyllis was born on June 1, 1951, in Adel, Georgia to the late Floyd and Lucille Gaskins.  Phyllis was known for her outgoing personality, kindheartedness, love for her family, and dedication to her Lord and Savior.

Phyllis worked as an office manager and warehouse manager for Omega Farm Supply, Omega Gin Company, and Irwin County Warehouse for the last 36 years of her life.  When not working she was busy serving the lord through her membership of the Adel Church of God.  She was the first woman to sit on the counsel of the Adel Church of God where she helped lead.  Before joining the counsel, she served as the Ladies Ministries President for approximately 20 years as well as leading most fundraising activities for the Adel Church of God.  Her passion was for singing and she sang in the choir for as long as anyone can remember.

Phyllis married the late Carl V Carter in June of 1969 where they resided in Cook County most of their married life.  They had two daughters, Letitia Vick and Brittani Cannington.  One of her biggest accomplishments in life was raising her two daughters as well as loving her grandchildren to the moon and back.

Phyllis is survived by her two loving daughters and two wonderful sons-in-law: Letitia and Shannon Vick of Adel and Brittani
and Chris Cannington of Lenox, her grandchildren: Joshua Vick, Jessica Quiroz (Christian), Raelyn Cannington and Carter Cannington, her great-grandchildren: Keaton Crosby and Margot Quiroz, and a sister: Patti Cox of Adel.  She also has three nephews whom she thought the world of: Walter Cowart (Kristie) of Adel, Joe Cowart (Katie) of Adel, and Phillip Cowart (Megan) of Jasper.  She also has a slew of other nieces, nephews, cousins and her special puppies, Zoe and Sophie.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Lucille Gaskins, her husband: Carl V. Carter, and one sister: Lyn F. Martin.
