Repsie Rose

Jun 27, 1928 — Sep 14, 2021
Lenox, Georgia
Mrs. Repsie Rose Godwin James, 93, of Lenox, Georgia, while sleeping peacefully at her home went to heaven on September 14, 2021 and now lives with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on June 27, 1928 in Cook County, Georgia to the late Braston Eli and Rosa Mae Rentz Godwin. She lived all her life in Cook County. Mrs. James grew up in Lenox where she worked at the family business, Godwin General Store, which was started by her grandmother, Repsie B. Godwin. As a sixteen year old, during World War II, she was a plane spotter and would climb the tower in downtown Lenox, look for planes, and report her sightings. She attended Georgia State Womans College in Valdosta, Georgia. She met the love of her life, Everett James, in Lenox and they were married 65 1/2 years. They married and moved to the country near Lenox were she became a homemaker. She milked cows, raised chickens, harvested vegetables and raised their five children. She often said she kept her children busy working in the garden, picking up pecans, feeding cows, raking leaves and offered them for employment to anyone in the church willing to hire them. She said if you're working, there is less time to get in trouble. She was a Proverbs 31 woman. She taught her five children the importance of loving and serving God and others and expected them to be in church every time the doors were open by setting an example. She loved God, her family, church and friends. She was a member of the Lenox Baptist Church where she loved and enjoyed her church, Sunday School Class and later the Senior Sunday School Class and the senior gatherings and meals. When her children were older she enjoyed visiting and waiting on customers at their farm supply store in Adel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett B. "E.B." James.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Earl and Kynnette James of Fitzgerald, Georgia and Gary and Pat James of Adel, Georgia; three daughters and sons-in-law: Donna and Roger Walker of Tifton, Georgia, Lesa and Stephen Deen of Adel, Janet and Kirk Lawler of Jacksonville, Florida; twelve grandchildren: Jabin and Beth James, Lori and John Hancock, Deron and Laura James, Dona and Bob Lord, Becky and Jody Futch, Michael and Charleen James.
